Texas continues to reap the benefits of hosting blue-chip recruits for win vs. Ohio State

The Texas Longhorns gambled big as they took on the Ohio State Buckeyes, hosting around three dozen blue-chip prospects as they took on the then-No. 1 team in the nation. Right now, it already looks like it is going to have a massive payoff.

Over the last week, recruiting insiders across the country have started to log expert predictions in the Horns' favor, including Rivals' Greg Biggins, who is traditionally known as a West Coast-based insider.

Since Texas's win over Ohio State, Biggins logged two expert predictions for the Longhorns to walk away with a couple of highly-rated prospects: four-star linebacker Allen Kennett V and three-star offensive tackle Lance Ciechanowski.

Kennett is the No. 11 linebacker in the class of 2028, and before the Longhorns pulled off the biggest upset in Steve Sarkisian's tenure, he was expected to land with his home-state team: the USC Trojans. Biggins has been the only recruiting insider to log a prediction for Kennett's future commitment, but he logged it with just 60% confidence, so it is far from a home run at this point.

The four-star linebacker has taken nine visits throughout his recruiting process, including just one unofficial visit to the 40 Acres, but nearly a half dozen trips to USC.

According to On3 and Rivals, the Horns currently hold an 88% chance to eventually land his commitment, followed not-so-closely by the Trojans at 5%.

Greg Biggins, Adam Gorney log expert predictions in Texas's favor for 3-star OT Lance Ciechanowski

Ciechanowski is yet another California native who is a top-50 offensive tackle prospect in the class of 2028 and a top-35 prospect out of the state.

The Sunday after Texas defeated Ohio State, both Biggins and Adam Gorney logged predictions that Ciechanowski would commit to the Longhorns over his two home-state teams that were initially projected as frontrunners: the UCLA Bruins and California Golden Bears.

Ciechanowski has taken just one unofficial visit, a trip to see the Arizona State Sun Devils.

However, after the Horns' incredible comeback victory over the Buckeyes, Texas is attracting attention from top prospects across the country.

So far, Sarkisian and the Longhorns have received just one commitment from the 2028 recruiting cycle: four-star quarterback Neimann Lawrence, who committed to Texas in June of this year. As more prospects continue to look in the Horns' direction, they should see their recruiting class blossom and likely climb up the national rankings once again.

Texas's class of 2027 currently ranks sixth in the country and second in the SEC, only trailing the Texas A&M Aggies. The Longhorns' class of 2026 ranked seventh in the nation and only trailed the Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide in the conference standings.
