With the Mississippi State Bulldogs missing their best player (quarterback Kamario Taylor) from the depth chart, and with the Texas Longhorns already back in the wins column, it should come as no surprise that the team in burnt orange is heavily favored over the team that wears maroon.
As the Bulldogs come to Austin for the first time since 2024, when the Horns defeated them by more than three touchdowns, Texas is projected to produce a double-digit victory once again.
Final spread, moneyline, total for Texas vs. Mississippi State
- Spread: -20.5 Texas, +20.5 Mississippi State
- Moneyline: -1450 Texas, +890 Mississippi State
- Over/Under: +/-50.5 points
As was true at the beginning of the week, the Horns are expected to win by 20.5 points, and the projected combined total score is set at just 50.5 points. That means the final score would look something like 35.5-15 (a proper walloping by Texas).
However, while the spread and over-under haven't changed throughout the week, the moneyline has, making it a bit harder for someone to profit off a Longhorn's win.
One would have to bet a whopping $1,450 on the Horns securing the win to profit just $100. Meanwhile, if someone bet $100 on the Bulldogs pulling off the upset, and Mississippi State actually did it, they would walk away with an $890 profit.

Game prediction for Texas Longhorns vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Because the weather isn't going to create ideal passing conditions, I think we are going to see another run-heavy performance by the Longhorns, something we finally saw from quarterback Arch Manning and running back Raleek Brown last week.
Additionally, Texas is expected to see the return of star RB Hollywood Smothers, adding even more juice to the rushing game against Mississippi State.
Furthermore, beyond connecting with wide receivers Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley V, the Texas wideouts and tight ends haven't exactly shown up the way a lot of people expect them to, with Cam Coleman being one of the biggest disappointments of the year.
On the other side of the ball, I expect the dominant Texas defense to demolish the battered Mississippi State offensive line and absolutely obliterate backup quarterback Parker Puckett. Even if the Texas offense regresses a bit (once again), the defense should undoubtedly be able to lead the Longhorns to a victory.
Simply put, the Horns should win this one handily, I'm just not 100% they'll actually cover the gargantuan spread.
