Longhorns have stacked an unfair amount of talent at EDGE and it isn't just Colin Simmons

It took almost no time for Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons to propel his name to the top of the charts in college football.

Now, ahead of his third and likely final season with the Texas Longhorns, Simmons has cemented himself as one of the best defensive players in the country.

Yet, he is far from the only talented edge on the Horns' roster, and he is more than happy to share the "greatness" label with his teammates.

Behind Simmons are Lance Jackson, Zina Umeozulu, Smith Orogbo, Colton Vasek, Richard Wesley, and more. One of the biggest standouts from fall camp was none other than Wesley, a true freshman edge rusher who joined the Longhorns as a five-star prospect.

Now, even Simmons has had to admit that Wesley could very easily be the next great edge rusher at Texas, possibly surpassing even his own prowess.

"Richie, he a dog. Richie a dog. Richie a dog," Simmons said after a fall camp workout. "Shoot, I always tell Richie he [might] mess around and be better than me. Honestly, truthfully."

As a five-star prospect, it should come as no surprise that Wesley has a lot of underlying promise, even in the first few months of his time on campus.

However, for an all-time great like Simmons to boast that Wesley could easily become better than himself, the Longhorns should be beyond excited for the future of the program, especially at the edge rusher position.

Simmons isn't the only returning linebacker to praise Wesley this summer, and the season is still over a week away from officially kicking off.

"I don't feel like we have one leader; I feel like our defense has a whole bunch of leaders," Jackson said about Wesley stepping up to the task as a true freshman.

Not to mention that Wesley isn't the only defensive lineman to receive high praise from his teammates so far this year. Jackson also praised sophomore lineman Justus Terry, who was also a five-star prospect, just one year ahead of Wesley.

"Justus has been creating havoc a lot. He's just getting in the playbook, moving fast. When Justus is out there, he doesn't really care what's going on. He's just going to go hard," Jackson said.

Sarkisian continues to stack a jaw-dropping amount of blue-chip talent into the defensive line room, everyone from edge rushers to defensive ends to linebackers to defensive tackles.

Even this season, the Horns could trot out an entire generation's worth of the best linebackers in the country with Simmons, Jackson, and Wesley possibly taking the field all at once.

The cherry on top? Sarkisian also brought one of the most beloved defensive coordinators back to the program, hiring Will Muschamp to the position to push his defense just one step further.

Simply put, not only can Texas boast one of the best defensive ends in the country this season, but it continues to sound more and more like the Longhorns will be able to boast the best edge rushers in the country for years to come.
