The top Texas storyline of the week was undoubtedly the commitment of one of the nation's top 2026 running backs, Derrek Cooper. He'll provide the team with top-tier talent in the backfield alongside Arch Manning and Co. once he gets to campus next year.

One of the main reasons why Cooper picked Texas was because he sees it as "RBU". There have been six Longhorn running backs drafted since 2022, two of them being in the top 50 picks.
Competition growing for the Longhorns' top TE target
4-star TE Keawe Browne is Texas' main target at the tight end position in the 2026 class, and it seems like his national recruitment has begun to pick up steam, with USC now reportedly going after him pretty hard.
Though Texas doesn't "need" to bring in another tight end in the 2026 cycle, it would be nice to have a younger player to develop over the next couple of seasons.
Bijan Robinson assisted in Derrek Cooper's commitment
It was recently revealed that the former Texas running back had a conversation with Derrek Cooper shortly before he decided to pledge his allegiance to the Longhorns on decision day.

Robinson apparently helped Cooper realize that committing to Texas was a good decision. I'm sure that speaking to one of the top Longhorn running backs of all time was very impactful for Cooper.

The nation's No.1-ranked cornerback released the final list of teams that he's considering, and the Longhorns made the cut.
