Texas Longhorns news: Softball is feeling super, baseball earns the No. 1 seed, more

The Longhorns are feeling super! Over the weekend, the Texas softball team hosted a Regional round of the NCAA Tournament and swept the three teams that came to town: the Eastern Illinois Panthers, Michigan Wolverines, and UCF Knights.

Now, the Horns move on to the Super Regionals, where Texas will host the Clemson Tigers in a best-of-three series to determine which team will move on to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.

In the Regional games, Texas blew out its opponents, run-ruling Eastern Illinois 10-2, run-ruling Michigan 16-4, and shutting out UCF 9-0.

Texas and Clemson will throw out the first pitch of Game One on Thursday, May 22, at 8 p.m. CT. The series will take place at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin, TX. Fans can tune into ESPN2 to catch all of the action.

Texas baseball clinches the SEC Tournament No. 1 seed

Over the weekend, the Longhorn baseball team played its final regular-season series of the year with a three-game matchup against the Oklahoma Sooners. Winning two of the three games, the Horns clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SEC Tournament.

In Texas's first-ever SEC Tournament appearance, the Longhorns received byes through the first and second rounds because of the top seeding.

Texas won't see any postseason play until the quarterfinals, on Thursday, May 22, at 2 p.m. CT. Heading into the conference tournament, the Horns hold onto a 42-11 overall record and a 22-8 record against conference opponents.

Texas track and field struggled in the team's first appearance in the SEC Championship, with both the men's and women's squads falling short of the podium.

When it came to individual results, a few Longhorns clinched conference titles, including Kendrick Smallwood in the 110-meter hurdles, Akala Garrett in the 400-meter hurdles, and Nina Ndubuisi in the shot put throw.

The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will begin on Wednesday, June 11. They will take place at Hayward Field in Eugene, OR.
