Steve Sarkisian must tap into the family connection in Kellan Hall recruiting effort

The Longhorns may as well use what's already on their side.

Kellan Hall is the No. 1 defensive lineman and No. 2 overall prospect in the class of 2028, bringing in hordes of attention from powerhouse college football programs across the country.

Now, Hall has locked in 10 game-day visits, including one to the 40 Acres to see the Texas Longhorns in action against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

However, while it should be a dominant showing for the Horns and the perfect opportunity for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian to flex their program to a prospect like Hall, they clearly aren't the only team in contention.

5-star DL Kellan Hall game-day visits schedule

  • Oregon Ducks, Sept. 5
  • Kentucky Wildcats, Sept. 12
  • Oklahoma Sooners, Sept. 19
  • Georgia Bulldogs, Sept. 26
  • Texas A&M Aggies, Oct. 3
  • Ohio State Buckeyes, Oct. 10
  • Michigan Wolverines, Oct. 17
  • Texas Longhorns, Oct. 31
  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Nov. 7
  • Tennessee Volunteers, Nov. 21

The good news for the Longhorns is the fact that they already have an inside track to lean into when it comes to recruiting Hall.

Hall's older cousin, Cameron Hall, committed to Texas along the defensive line as part of the 2027 class, choosing the Horns over a slew of powerhouse programs, just like the younger Hall has the opportunity to do.

Cameron has even put in his own efforts to bring his younger cousin to Austin, hyping up the news anytime Kellan announced his offer or visits with the Horns.

"Uhh ohhh LET'S GO CUZ!" Hall has written on X. "Yea Cuz!"

Sarkisian and the Texas recruiting staff must lean into that connection as they try to bring the younger Hall into their fold as well.

Reportedly, the Longhorns are doing just that.

On3's Steve Wiltfong reported that Texas is "coming strong" for Hall's attention, and that the "cousin connection is fueling the push." That's exactly what the Horns need in their back pocket to push the barometer in their direction.

Yet, despite the familial connection and Wiltfong's latest report, the recruiting insider still has an expert prediction logged for Hall's commitment, in favor of none other than the Oklahoma Sooners. However, expert predictions only go so far, and a game-day visit can go so much farther (and, luckily, comparing Austin to Norman is like comparing decadent cheesecake and stale raisins).

Ultimately, Sarkisian and the Horns have over two months until Hall comes to town, and in that time, they can continue to put in an unrelenting effort to turn his attention in their direction.

However, the final decision comes down to where Hall wants to play, no matter what Wiltfong, his cousin, or anyone else thinks.
