Heading into the 2026 transfer portal, the CFB world thought that Texas was going to attack a certain type of wide receiver, but they didn't. It was also pretty realistic to think that Steve Sarkisian would want to find a replacement for DeAndre Moore Jr. once he decided to leave as well.
In reality, the Longhorns brought in an outside or boundary receiver in Auburn's Cam Coleman, and it's safe to say that nobody's balking at that move. Though having Coleman and Ryan Wingo gives Texas potentially the top wide receiver duo in all of college football, there was still a huge question surrounding slot receiver. The main reason why is because of its importance in Sarkisian's offense when it comes to being Arch Manning's safety valve along with the tight end position.
Update: The plan is to move WR Emmett Mosley V to the slot this season for Texas, sources tell @AnwarRichardson

Now, it officially looks like Emmett Mosley V is being bumped inside to the slot and this could be huge for the offense in 2026 for two main reasons.
1. Emmett Mosley V is enormous compared to DeAndre Moore Jr. both from a height and weight perspective. That extra 3" and 15 pounds is going to give Mosley a big advantage over the types of nickel corners that he'll most likely see in 2026.
Instead of using the slot receiver as more of a safety blanket or short to intermediate weapon, we could see Sarkisian using Mosley on deeper, slot-fade/slot-post type of routes. He'll be able to stress the defense more often than Moore Jr. could, and Mosley can definitely stack and shield defensive backs away from the ball on a more consistent basis.
2. Mosley V is without a doubt, the best blocker in the wide receiver room. Now, Sark will have the ability to incorporate Mosley into the run game by crashing down on linebackers and walked-up safeties on early downs. Instead of pulling an extra lineman against MUG fronts, Mosley could be motioned in and gap down on MIKE or SAM linebackers.
This is an excellent move by the coaching staff heading into the spring, and it'll be incredibly interesting to see Mosley in action over the next few months.
