The Texas Longhorns just received a commitment from yet another prospect in the class of 2027, the latest of a slew of prospects to dedicate their talents to the burnt orange and white over the last few weeks.
This time around, it was four-star cornerback Montre Jackson, a native Texan who decided between a handful of powerhouse programs, including a few teams in the SEC and quite a few in his home state. Jackson had seemingly narrowed his search to just three programs before making his actual commitment, only taking official visits with the Longhorns, SMU Mustangs, and Ole Miss Rebels. Just before his decision day, Jackson started hinting at something big on the horizon.
Will Muschamp plays critical role in Horns landing Montre Jackson
Throughout his process, he also didn't shy away from complimenting head coach Steve Sarkisian, his staff, and his program leading up to Jackson's commitment.
"Texas has just been really consistent within my recruitment," Jackson said of his experience with the Horns. "Coach [Will] Muschamp has set up a plan for me."
Of course, just a few weeks after the Horns' 2025 football season ended, Sarkisian hired former Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, bringing him back to the 40 Acres in his old position. Clearly, throughout Jackson's recruitment, bringing Muschamp back to the team was the right move for the Longhorns.
Before his commitment even hit the airways, On3 and Rivals had the blue-chip defensive back leaning toward Texas, giving the Horns an 86.6 percent chance to earn his commitment. The Mustangs were not-so-close seconds, at 4.2 percent odds. Despite not taking an official visit to Norman, recruiting experts had the Oklahoma Sooners still in the mix, but according to most analysts' beliefs, OU was out of the picture before his recruitment date was even set.
At 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, Jackson still has some growing to do (both in height and weight), but his high school stats already speak for themselves.
However, as 247Sports' Gabe Brooks notes, the elite pass defender "doesn't get tested often," with quarterbacks avoiding the downfield targets that he covers. During his junior season alone, he racked up an impressive nine pass breakups. He also competed in track and field, excelling in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
An incredible all-around athlete, Jackson is a massive addition to Texas's defensive secondary, and just the latest prospect that Sarkisian has added to the cornerback room this offseason.
Jackson joins fellow cornerback John Meredith, a five-star prospect who is the No. 2 overall recruit in the class of 2027, as well as four-star safety Greedy James.
