Texas basketball reportedly, per OTF's Gerry Hamilton (paywall content), topped the Colorado Buffaloes in a "closed door scrimmage" this weekend.

Multiple reports have indicated that freshman shooting guard/wing Tre Johnson had a massive day for the Longhorns scoring the basketball, with over 30 points in the 79-75 scrimmage victory over the Buffs. Johnson was reportedly the leading scorer for either team in this scrimmage against Colorado.

Other early reports have suggested that the Longhorns held a sizable lead for most of the scrimmage.

Johnson has led the Longhorns in scoring both closed door scrimmages this preseason for head coach Rodney Terry. He scored in the double figures in Texas's dominant 80-52 win in a closed door scrimmage last weekend against the TCU Horned Frogs.

It also sounded like the Longhorns got big performances in the closed scrimmage against TCU last weekend from senior forward Jayson Kent, senior shooting guard Tramon Mark, and junior guard Jordan Pope.

Last weekend's closed door scrimmage against TCU was played at a neutral site in San Antonio, TX.

This weekend, the Longhorns faced Colorado in the closed door scrimmage in Austin.

The closed door scrimmage on Oct. 27 was the final preseason tune-up for Johnson and the Longhorns before the regular season opener in Las Vegas, NV, against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Nov. 4. There won't be any inter-squad scrimmage for the Longhorns this preseason, like Terry and staff held before the start of the 2023-24 regular season last fall.

Texas is ranked in the top 20 in both major preseason polls, entering Year 2 under Terry as the full-time head coach. Last season, the Longhorns finished with a 21-13 (9-9 Big 12) record after falling to the two-seed Tennessee Volunteers in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32.
