Texas should be ready to move on if Easton Royal flips to Florida as predicted

Texas is a program recruits should be excited to join, not one that needs to spend months convincing a wavering commitment to stay. So if Easton Royal wants to flip his commitment to Florida, he's not Longhorn material anyway.

On3 and Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong has made a hard prediction for Royal to flip his commitment to the Gators, continuing the saga of his seemingly paper-thin allegiance to the Longhorns.

It's been a frustrating recruiting cycle, and it seems like Royal has been treating his commitment to Texas as a placeholder while he accepts bids from several other major programs, with Florida being the latest suitor.

Royal's continued recruitment, despite committing to Texas in November 2025, has been a sore spot for Texas fans. He has visited other programs, spoken enthusiastically about Florida, and scheduled additional trips while indicating that a final decision is approaching.

At some point, Easton Royal needs to decide if he wants to be a Longhorn

Royal has every right to explore his options, but Texas fans also have every right to be exhausted by the uncertainty. If his recruitment is truly this open, he should have simply decommitted and announced that he was reopening his recruitment.

Royal is an elite five-star prospect, so losing him would matter, but the program cannot build its future around one unresolved commitment.

Texas should be willing to walk away rather than remain in recruiting limbo. Steve Sarkisian should recruit players who are ready to be Longhorns. This isn't to say he should tell Royal to hit the bricks, but there should also be options ready if Royal turns his back on Texas.

The Longhorns have in-state 4-star WR commit Briceson Thrower Jr. in the 2027 class, but that's the only elite-level recruit they have at the wide receiver position in that group. It might be time for Sark to start looking hard at flipping some receivers from other programs.

If Easton Royal wants to be a Longhorn, Texas should welcome him. If he'd rather be a Gator, Florida can have him. Either way, it's time for this recruiting saga to end.
