Texas softball makes history as Horns win series against No. 13 Georgia

As Texas went 2-1 against the Georgia Bulldogs, the Longhorns reached a level of history not seen for more than a decade.

The Texas Longhorns got the season back on track after dropping their series to the Oklahoma Sooners with a 2-1 series win over the No. 13 Georgia Bulldogs.

While the wins themselves were big for the program, righting a slightly askew ship, Mike White's team more notably made a little history (once again).

Rivalry games, like the ones between Texas and OU, usually run the gauntlet for the most viewers. However, the Longhorns' Sunday victory over the Bulldogs actually set an all-time high for regular-season matchups.

At its highest volume, the television audience for Texas versus Georgia reached 725,000 viewers, earning its place as the most-watched regular-season game since 2015.

Texas softball reaches new viewership records

While the Horns' postseason games, especially their World Series win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders last season, undoubtedly held more viewers at a given time, this is still a massive accomplishment for the program.

People are tuning in to see the likes of Teagan Kavan, Reese Atwood, and others in action. They're tuning in to see Texas play softball.

With the Sunday victory over Georgia, the Longhorns improved to 35-7 overall, with a 12-6 record against conference opponents. Currently, Texas is tied for fifth in the SEC standings.

Up next, the Horns will host No. 17 Oklahoma State in a mid-week meeting on Wednesday, April 22. Then, the Longhorns will visit the Kentucky Wildcats for a three-game series starting on Friday, April 24.

Texas's next rivalry series will take place at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin against the Arkansas Razorbacks over the final weekend in April.

The SEC Softball Tournament is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 5, followed by the postseason, which will hopefully include the College World Series once again.
