Texas Tech's Joey McGuire may finally get his second win over Steve Sarkisian

It has been nearly four years since the Texas Tech Red Raiders and head coach Joey McGuire were able to eke out an overtime win over the Texas Longhorns and head coach Steve Sarkisian.

However, with the Red Raiders picking up steam on the recruiting trail, it looks like McGuire may finally be primed to secure a second win over Sarkisian and the Horns.

Four-star offensive tackle Austin Attalah is set to make his commitment on Tuesday, Aug. 24, and he is choosing between the USC Trojans, Red Raiders, and Longhorns.

"I'm ready; I know where I want to go," Attalah told Rivals' Greg Biggins, who first announced the OT's commitment date.

He is the No. 3 offensive tackle in the class of 2028, so it should come as no surprise that teams across the country poured a lot of effort into recruiting Attalah. However, he is now just a day away from making his commitment, and unfortunately for Texas, the Horns are not the frontrunners.

Instead, McGuire and Texas Tech have received all of the expert predictions to land Attalah's commitment, winning out over the Horns and the Trojans.

On3's Steve Wiltfong, Sam Spiegelman, and Adam Gorney all recorded predictions that Attalah would commit to the Red Raiders, as did 247Sports' Blair Anuglo, giving McGuire a large advantage over Sarkisian and USC head coach Lincoln Riley.

Despite Sarkisian and the Horns currently boasting a long line of elite offensive tackles (Trevor Goosby, Melvin Siani, and (soon-to-be star) Ismael Camara, it is looking increasingly like Attalah will choose Texas Tech over Texas, and even over his home-state team of USC.

Throughout his recruiting process, Attalah has taken four visits, all of which were unofficial and none of which were to the 40 Acres.

With three trips to USC and one to Lubbock, which the Red Raiders call home, Attalah has seemingly already made up his mind.

Now, this is not the end of the road; Texas could make a heavy push in the next day to lure Attalah in its direction. Or, as has become commonplace in the current age of college football, he could commit to the Red Raiders just to flip his commitment somewhere down the road.

Not to mention, even with the expert predictions all going in Texas Tech's direction, none of those were logged with complete confidence.

In fact, all four recruiting insiders only logged their predictions with an underwhelming 60-percent confidence, or a 6 out of 10, as 247Sports reports.

Ultimately, the Horns, Red Raiders, and Trojans will know who came out victorious by the end of the day tomorrow, and if Texas Tech wins out, then even Texas fans will have to give McGuire a "job well done."
