Despite losing just four matches, the 2025 volleyball season wasn't up to the standards of the Texas Longhorns, who are five-time National Champions and one of the most dominant programs in the nation.
Losing to the Kentucky Wildcats in the SEC Championship game and then losing to the Wisconsin Badgers in the Regional Final left a bitter taste in the Horns' mouths.
However, it doesn't have the Texas volleyball team or head coach Jerritt Elliott backing down from big matchups in the future.
On Friday morning, the Texas volleyball social media accounts posted a graphic of Bevo with a stalk of corn in his eye, with the message "y’all ready?" in the caption. Without a doubt, it had to have been a sign that the Longhorns are planning to face the Cornhuskers sooner rather than later.

The Huskers are one of the other powerhouse teams in the world of college volleyball, also claiming five National Championships in program history.
Just a few moments after posting the graphic, Texas announced that the Horns would face the Cornhuskers in the Players Era Challenge, continuing a trend of high-ranking matchups for the Longhorns' non-conference schedules.

Throughout Nebraska and Texas's lengthy history in the sport, the series is nearly tied, with the Huskers claiming 25 victories and the Horns earning 23 wins.
The last time the two teams shared the court was in 2023, when Texas swept Nebraska in straight sets, securing the Longhorns' second consecutive national title.
While the Horns might claim the more recent victory, this upcoming battle is another chance for Texas to take one more step toward evening the series.
The Players Era Challenge, which takes place in Las Vegas, is set to take place over the last weekend in August, with the Longhorns and Cornhuskers now scheduled to play each other on Sunday, Aug. 30.
The day before, Texas will face another familiar foe in the form of their in-state and former Big 12 opponent, the TCU Horned Frogs.
