Texas vs. Vanderbilt full injury report for Week 9
The final update to the SEC-mandated injury report was released Friday for No. 5 Texas football vs. the No. 25 Vanderbilt Commodores on Oct. 26 in Nashville. Texas had a couple of updates for key injured starters but no big-time surprises in the Friday injury report release update.
Texas comes into this game against Vanderbilt more banged up at a couple of key position groups than the Commodores. The Longhorns are down four starters, as running back and safety injuries have impacted the depth situation for head coach Steve Sarkisian at those positions amid a key stretch of SEC play on the road this week.
Sarkisian and the Longhorns need key players to step up, especially on offense with quarterback Quinn Ewers, to come up with a big bounce-back victory this weekend against a top-25 SEC team on the road against Vandy this afternoon.
Here's a look at the full injury report for the top-25 matchup between No. 5 Texas and No. 25 Vanderbilt at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, TN, on Oct. 26 at 3:15 p.m. CT.
Texas football injury report vs. Vanderbilt
CJ Baxter Jr., RB (Out)
Christian Clark, RB (Out)
Velton Gardner, RB (Out)
Andrew Mukuba, S (Out)
Senior Andrew Mukuba is a big loss for the Longhorns secondary for this game against dual-threat quarterback Diego Pavia and Vandy's offense. Texas is already down one starting safety due to an injury, sophomore Derek Williams Jr., for the rest of the season.
Mukuba's absence puts the Longhorns down two starting safeties against Vandy. With Mukuba out, Texas is expected to start redshirt junior Michael Taaffe and sophomore Jelani McDonald at safety this weekend.
Mukuba suffered a knee injury in a play on coverage in the second half against Georgia in Week 8. Before the knee injury in the second half against Georgia, Mukuba had five combined tackles and one interception.
Derek Williams Jr., S (Out)
Isaiah Bond, WR (Out)
Junior wide receiver Isaiah Bond is dealing with a lingering ankle injury that he originally suffered in the Red River Rivalry game a couple of weeks ago against the Oklahoma Sooners. Bond was limited last week with the ankle injury against Georgia, keeping him on the sideline for most of the second half.
True freshman Ryan Wingo is expected to get the start at wide receiver with Bond out against Vanderbilt.
