Even though Women's Basketball isn't scheduled to play again until Sunday, they received some good news from two high school recruits on the first day of the early signing period.

Texas Women's Basketball got some good news on their day off yesterday. While I'm sure the team was practicing after the landslide victory against the Ragin' Cajuns, Wednesday was the first day of the early signing period for high school students.

Texas has picked up two new players for the 2026-2027 season, and both are expected to be instrumental to Vic Schaefer and his program.

Aaliah Spaight - Bishop Gorman HS

The Longhorns' first recruit that they announced was 4-star Guard Aaliah Spaight from Bishop Gorman High School (NV). I'm not surprised that Schaefer is looking for new guards, as Rori Harmon will be out of eligibility after the season. She was named to the Naismith High School Player of the Year Watch List this year. While I don't see her starting in her first season, unlike Aaliyah Crump, she will add depth to the guard position, which the Longhorns will need after this season.

From some of her highlight videos I found online, it appears she enjoys dribbling the ball down the court and shooting it if she's not really open. I could be completely wrong, and she could be a passing point guard at the collegiate level. However, that might be something that Schaefer will work on with her, since his offense is more of a passing-centric one. However, if they can get her wide open for a three-point shot, then she will be a valuable piece of the Longhorns' offense next season. She's going to be a great addition once Schaefer finds her a role on the team.

Amalia Holguin - Mamba Academy

Combo guard Amalia Holguin is the second player who committed to Texas. She also played on Team Why Not in the Nike Girls EBYL Circuit. She was also a part of the Mamba Academy, which was created by late NBA player Kobe Bryant. That is a challenging program to attend, and it has produced outstanding basketball players. I really like the duality of her being a shooting guard and a point guard. It gives Schaefer more areas in which he can play her in his offense.

How much playing time she will get with the Longhorns is tough to predict. The Longhorns will have some experienced guards, such as Crump, that Schaefer will play before turning to a player like Holguin. However, with her experience as a combo guard, she might see the court in certain situations. Both of these ladies have worked hard to get offers from Texas Basketball this year, and I hope everyone congratulates them when they arrive on campus next fall.
