The Women's Basketball team entered the game looking to continue building momentum after their season-opening win against the Incarnate Word Cardinals. They have some outstanding players on Richmond's squad this year, and even though the game got off to a rocky start, the Longhorns went on to win 85-56.

Here are the four takeaways from tonight's win against the Spiders.

1. Richmond didn't budge in the first quarter

The Longhorns got a wake-up call in the first quarter, as the Spiders were not going to go away easily, unlike the Cardinals did on Monday night. They even took the lead from the Longhorns in the first quarter. Texas better get used to that, as they will need to face UCLA and South Carolina in the coming weeks. Not every game will be like the season opener.

2. The Longhorns don't need to shoot excessive three-pointers

One thing that drove me crazy in the first quarter was that the Longhorns were constantly taking excessive three-point shots and missing them. They don't need to showcase their three-point shooting right out of the gate. I want to see the Longhorns attack the basket with some of their new forwards. Kyla Oldacre is more than capable of posting up inside and putting up two-point shots.

There's no need to blow out the opponent within the first quarter.

3. Madison Booker double-double

Madison Booker had another fantastic game for the Longhorns last night. She got another double-double this season by recording 22 points and 12 rebounds against the Spiders. If the Longhorns are hoping to have a good enough season to get back to the Final Four, Booker has to be consistent on offense.

So far in the first two games of the 2025 season, she's been scoring baskets consistently. While she might have an off night here and there this year, she has really improved on her shooting accuracy during the offseason.

4. Forcing turnovers

On the defensive side of the ball, the Longhorns were forcing the ball out of Richmond's hands fairly consistently. Texas forced 24 turnovers against Richmond, which is a pretty substantial amount of forced turnovers against a ranked opponent. That is how the Longhorns will have to play against South Carolina and UCLA in non-conference play later this month. The Longhorns are back at the Moody Center on Monday against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.
