The Longhorns and Fighting Irish set home-and-away series for 2028 and 2029

On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the Texas Longhorns and Notre Dame Fighting Irish scheduled a home-and-away series between the two historic football programs. In 2028 and 2029, the Horns and the Irish will clash in (what would currently be) non-conference games.
Texas will visit Notre Dame in South Bend, IN in 2028, and a year later, the Horns will host the Fighting Irish at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.
The last time the two teams shared a football field was in 2016 when Texas had Shane Buechele at quarterback, D'Onta Foreman at running back, and John Burt leading the wideouts. Texas eked out a 50-47 win after double overtime when backup quarterback Tyrone Swoopes dove into the end zone for a six-yard touchdown.
Throughout the history of the two long-lived programs, Texas and Notre Dame have shared a field 12 times. The Longhorns have, somewhat shockingly, only won three of the previous matchups.
From 1970 until 1978, the Horns and the Irish met in the Cotton Bowl three times, Notre Dame claimed two victories (1971, 1978) to Texas' one win (1970).
The 2016 matchup was also part of a home-and-away series between the Longhorns and the Fighting Irish. Just one year earlier, Texas visited South Bend and had its teeth kicked in. In 2015, Notre Dame walked away with a resounding 38-3 win over the Horns.
While the newest home-and-away series is still four years away, Texas and Notre Dame fans are already feeling the buzz, especially since both teams are currently in the top eight spots of the College Football Playoff rankings.
