Based on the recent transfer portal additions of Jonte Newman and Dylan Sikorski, it's starting to become evident that Texas is focusing on the longer-term aspect of the offensive line.

Not only are the Longhorns targeting players who they think could contribute right away, but they're bringing in guys who have 3+ years of eligibility left. The two Michigan offensive linemen that they were going after early on in the process also have multiple years of eligibility left.

In the new age of college football and how easy it is for players to leave a school and jump to another, Texas is doing everything it can to build continuity up front. Instead of consistently going after redshirt juniors and seniors, they're trying to bring in players who have at least a decent chance of staying and developing at Texas for more than one season.

I'm sure they'll bring in one or two more upperclassmen along the offensive line to help with their "win now" mindset for 2026, and they should, but it's easy to see that they're trying to build for the future as well.

Both Newman and Sikorski undoubtedly have the ability and potential to develop into full-time starters at some point, and depending on what else Texas does via the portal before classes begin, one of them could compete to start at an offensive guard spot immediately.

Both players are built like tanks and can move pretty well for being 330+ pounds. Though Newman has more length than Sikorski does, which is why he could actually stick at offensive tackle, Sikorski is a much better pass blocker right now. This could give him a leg-up heading into the spring, and he "should" have the best chance to see first-team reps right away.
