Inside Texas reported on Jan. 3 that grad transfer senior quarterback CJ Rogers committed to Texas football amid a visit to Austin on Friday. The former Argyle quarterback who led the Eagles to a 4A-1 state title in Texas threw for over 3,000 yards and 48 passing touchdowns in his senior season.

More QB proven depth added to the offense with Texas football landing former FCS QB transfer CJ Rogers

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee wanted to add an experienced emergency QB to fill depth and add assurance to the QB room for the 2025 season.

The Longhorns will probably lose starting quarterback Quinn Ewers and former walk-on QB Cole Lourd this upcoming offseason in the QB room. Adding Rogers gives the Longhorns a fourth quarterback and some experience to give alongside Arch Manning, presumed back next season Trey Owens, and incoming freshman/spring enrollee KJ Lacey.

Rogers spent time with the Baylor Bears, Texas State Bobcats, and FCS Houston Christian Huskies during his collegiate career. He played in seven games this season for Houston Christian.

In those seven games he played for the Huskies at QB, Rogers started three against Stephen F. Austin, Incarnate Word, and Nicholls State. He also took offensive snaps for Houston Christian against FBS competition in-state early in the season, against the SMU Mustangs in Week 1 and the UTSA Roadrunners in Week 4.

Rogers threw for over 200 yards, no passing touchdowns, and two interceptions at the FCS level in 2024.

He told IT that getting the chance to play for UT will be a "dream come true".

"Playing at the University of Texas is a dream come true. Iā€™m very excited to be able to learn from Coach Sarkisian and Coach Milwee and help the program."

Rogers' commitment to the Longhorns comes amidst a weekend where Texas hosts multiple transfer targets on campus for official visits.

He is the fourth transfer pickup for the Longhorns in the winter portal, including former Purdue defensive tackle Cole Brevard, Arkansas linebacker Brad Spence, and Utah punter Jack Bouwmeester.
