Will Muschamp and his defensive scheme has been the talk of the town since he's been hired, and for good reason. He's an extremely fun guy to watch on gamedays due to his animation and passion along the sidelines, in addition to the simple fact that he's just a great defensive coordinator.
He's had some elite defenders flourish under him over the years, and it's incredibly safe to say that he'll have some at Texas in 2026 as well. One of those potential players is actually pretty new to the program.
2025 Arkansas transfer LB/DE Brad Spence looked impressive this season when he transitioned to defensive end/BUCK, making consistent plays on a part-time or rotational basis.

Muschamp likes to use position-flexible players around the line of scrimmage to confuse offensive lines and try to create mismatches. Similar to how the Cleveland Browns use their defensive ends in Jim Schwartz's defense, Muschamp will sometimes align guys like Colin Simmons and Brad Spence on the interior to make life hell for opposing guards centers.
Spence has the prototypical skillset and athleticism to be incredibly effective in Muschamp's defensive scheme both on and off the ball. He's the type of player who can line up in a 3-point stance and rush the pass on one play, but then drop back into coverage the next and be an asset there as well. On top of that, he's a great open field tackler, consistently breaking down and using his lengthy 6'2", 242-pound frame to absolutely smack ball-carriers.
Though he's about 10 pounds lighter, Brad Spence has the opportunity to be 2026's version of Sergio Kindle, who Muschamp used in a similar way at Texas back in 2008 and 2009.
