USC transfer DL Bear Alexander interested in Texas
The defensive line is possibly the biggest positional need Texas football and Steve Sarkisian must tackle in the winter NCAA Transfer Portal window. Texas will probably be looking to add at least two or three experienced and proven defensive tackles from the transfer portal for the 2025 season.
USC and Georgia transfer DL Bear Alexander could fit a portal need at defensive tackle for Texas football
Among the most experienced and talented immediate-impact defensive tackle transfers the Longhorns could possibly pursue in the portal during the winter window is former USC Trojans and Georgia Bulldogs junior defensive lineman Bear Alexander.
Alexander spent the past two seasons at USC after transferring to join the Trojans following the conclusion of his true freshman campaign at Georgia in the 2022 season. He registered 52 combined tackles, seven tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 34 quarterback pressures, 30 defensive stops, and four batted balls since 2023 at USC.
After Alexander first announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal earlier this fall a few months ago, we mentioned a previous report that cited Texas among the SEC programs expected to be in the mix for his portal recruitment this December.
Alexander is a Texas native. He attended Terrell High School in East Texas and is a native of Terrell, TX.
He's got the proven size (6-foot-5 and 315 pounds), power, and playing experience in the trenches in the P4 programs in the Big Ten with USC and the SEC with Georgia a few years ago. Alexander was a freshman at Georgia when head coach Kirby Smart and the Dawgs won the national championship in 2022.
It was reported by 247Sports' Chris Hummer on the morning of Dec. 9 that Alexander has officially entered the transfer portal. Alexander's transfer process is expected to be one of the highest-stakes portal recruitments in the winter window in December.
Per 247Sports' Mike Roach, Alexander is working to line up "several visits" to schools involved in his portal recruitment during the winter portal window.
We will continue to track Alexander's portal recruitment for updates if he does end up scheduling a visit to Texas in the portal over the next few weeks. The winter transfer portal window opened on Dec. 9 and stays open until Dec. 28.
