Just over a week after the Texas Longhorns appeared in their first Final Four since 2003, head coach Vic Schaefer was busy on the recruiting trail, ensuring the success of the Horns for years to come.
As Taylor Jones and Shay Holle leave the program for the next step in their careers, Schaefer will have to add a paint presence, a defensive leader, and some offensive firepower to his lineup. Over the week, the Texas head coach might have found exactly who he was looking for.
Former Arizona Wildcats forward Breya Cunningham, who entered the transfer portal following the 2024-25 season, committed to Schaefer and the Longhorns on Saturday, April 12.

Cunningham, who played her first two collegiate seasons for the Arizona Wildcats, started in 64 games throughout the last two years.
Breya Cunningham college career stats
- 22.2 minutes per game
- 9.3 points per game
- 5.8 rebounds per game
- 1.8 blocks per game
- 1.1 steals per game
- 0.8 assists per game
At 6-foot-4, Cunningham adds a decent amount of size to the Texas roster, which heavily relies on smaller players like guards Rori Harmon, Jordan Lee, and Bryanna Preston. Similarly, she adds the defensive presence that the Longhorns lose as Holle and Jones leave the program.
Who else will Texas add in 2025?
At the end of 2024, Schaefer received a huge commitment from five-star prospect Aaliyah Crump, who is currently representing Team USA at the Nike Hoop Summit.
