In yet another recruiting win for the Texas women's basketball team, head coach Vic Schaefer received a commitment from a former Boston College forward.

Teya Sidberry, a high-scoring power forward, spent her first season with the Utah Utes before transferring to play with the Eagles. Now, Sidberry is a Longhorn and is joining an already dominant Texas program.

Last season, Sidberry led the Eagles in rebounds per game (7.0) and earned the third-most points per game out of the starting lineup (12.5).

Teya Sidberry college career stats

  • 10.5 points per game
  • 5.8 rebounds per game
  • 1.5 steals per game
  • 0.9 assists per game
  • 0.6 blocks per game

Sidberry should fit perfectly into Schaefer's style of play, which is heavily focused on defensive dominance. Over the last three years, her 5.8 rebounds per game came mainly on the defensive end of the court (4.4 per game), and her average has improved with experience.

Joining returning Texas guard Rori Harmon and forward Madison Booker, Sidberry will help create an almost unbeatable force on defense for the Longhorns.

Schaefer earned two other transfer commitments earlier this offseason in the form of former Florida Atlantic center Lovisa Asbrink Hose and former Arizona forward Breya Cunningham. Jordan Lee, Brenna Preston, Kyla Oldacre, and more have also decided to stick around for at least one more season with Texas.

Last year, the Horns earned the SEC regular season title, made an appearance in the SEC Tournament championship game, and made their first trip to the Final Four since 2003. Not to mention, the team finished their first season in the SEC with an incredible 35-4 overall record.
