The Early National Signing Day started with a bang for Texas football recruiting in the 2025 class on Dec. 4, landing a commitment from five-star San Antonio (TX) Alamo Heights athlete Michael Terry III. Terry committed to Texas over the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Oregon Ducks during a signing day ceremony at Alamo Heights High School on Wednesday morning.
Texas football gets a huge commitment to start signing day from 5-Star ATH Michael Terry III
Texas was heavily involved in Terry's recruitment since the start of last offseason. Nebraska and Oregon gave the Longhorns a run for their money in this recruitment for the past few months, especially with the Huskers making a big late push heading into signing day early this week.
Nabbing Terry's commitment essentially locks up a top-three-ranked high school recruiting class nationally in the 247Sports Composite on signing day for the Longhorns for this cycle.
The biggest debate surrounding Terry's fit with the Longhorns is what position he'll play in college. Texas didn't pitch Terry on one specific position to play on either side of the ball, but he has the athleticism and versatility to translate his raw talent and potential to multiple spots on the field.

To start his collegiate career, I don't think Terry will be competing much on the defensive side of the ball for early playing time next spring in camp.
At 6-foot-3 and 215-pounds, Terry has the combination of size, strength, and speed necessary to excel playing on either side of the ball at the collegiate level. Terry is the type of big and versatile athlete who head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns want to add to the roster at key position on both sides of the ball.
OTF's Gerry Hamilton says that wide receiver is the first position Terry wants a chance to play for the Longhorns in college. With how Sarkisian and the Longhorns are adding more size to the receiving corps in this recruiting cycle from the high school ranks, it would make sense that Terry is part of the picture for the future of the wide receiver position for Texas.
Terry's blocking ability and high motor on the outside and downfield push blocking for the ball carrier means he could fit that type of DeAndre Moore Jr. or Jordan Whittington role in the receiving corps for the Longhorns.
Sarkisian and the Longhorns really value the positional versatility on both sides of the ball. Terry fits the mould of that type of athlete who can excel at multiple positions, including wide receiver, running back, and/or tight end.
Terry could also be a real mismatch for the Longhorns as a big-time receiving tight end. I think Sarkisian's offensive scheme and variety of plays can make great use of Terry's versatility and athleticism in so many different ways.
