Every single Longhorn fan born before the year 2005 remembers Justin Tucker's walk-off field goal to defeat the Texas A&M Aggies in 2011, the final meeting between the two teams before the Aggies left the Big 12 for the SEC.
Now, the Longhorns and the Aggies share a conference once again and the (in)famous in-state rivalry has returned. As the two teams prepare to face each other in their last game of the regular season, take a look back through the history of the Texas versus Texas A&M rivalry.
When did the Lone Star Showdown begin? A history of the rivlary
The nickname of the long-lasting rivalry didn't appear until the mid-1990s but the bitter rivalry has spanned over 13 decades. The first-ever matchup between Texas and Texas A&M took place on Oct. 19, 1894, and resulted in a 38-0 shutout victory for the Longhorns.
Since the first meeting, Texas has won 75 more games against Texas A&M while the Aggies have won a meager 37 in total.
However, just one year before Tucker secured the game-winning field goal, the Aggies had come to Austin and defeated the Longhorns at home. The last time Texas A&M beat Texas was on Nov. 25, 2010, when the No. 17 Aggies earned a 24-17 win over the unranked Longhorns.
