5 Ways Texas Must Improve to Make Final Four Next Year
(4) Texas Needs More Perimeter Size
Texas needs to capitalize on the legacy of Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Brianna Taylor. The senior guard shut down opposing teams’ best players throughout the season.
But, the overall team defense lacked size, length, and quickness on the perimeter. Too often, Texas let opposing guards get to the bucket for layups, especially in the second round tournament game against N.C. State. Texas survived in the end, but they gave up too many drives to the basket or committed too many fouls trying to guard scorers.
Texas has to develop length and size on the outside to intimidate guards and create easy offense on the other end by forcing turnovers and getting steals.
As part of the #1 item on our list for Texas to develop more of an edge, this is especially true when it comes to team defense on the perimeter.
