Texas Football: 3 transfer portal Bru McCoy-receiver replacements
Potentially the most established wide receiver in the transfer portal at the moment is the former West Virginia Mountaineers deep threat Marcus Simms. He’s coming off two seasons where he posted more than 1,300 combined receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Simms is also just one year off averaging more than 18.0 yards per catch.
One of the last truly solid experienced returning wide receivers for West Virginia this fall was going to be Simms. The West Virginia offense was already set to be down running back Kennedy McKoy, quarterback Will Grier, and the star wide receiver duo that was David Sills V and Gary Jennings, this year.
Simms put his name in the transfer portal back in April and hasn’t committed anywhere yet. What better for him than to be able to stay in the Big 12 and give rising junior Texas football quarterback Sam Ehlinger a deep threat on the outside. Simms would also round out the experienced trio that would be him, Collin Johnson, and Devin Duvernay.
This is a low-risk, high-reward option for the Longhorns to immediately replace the production that McCoy could’ve provided this fall. The loss for offensive coordinator Tim Beck comes with the fact that McCoy could’ve stood out for three or four years while Simms would only be around for one.
