4. Oklahoma State Cowboys

National Class Ranking: 34

This is where the gap between the 2020 Texas football recruiting class and the rest of the field starts to spread. Oklahoma State does have 12 commitments, so the average ranking between the Pokes and Longhorns still has a fairly large discrepency.

The road map for Texas to get past Oklahoma State is more complex than it is for Iowa State, but not by much. Oklahoma State competes for some of the same prospects as Texas, but head coach Mike Gundy mostly goes after three-star underrated prospects. It’s the skill positions where the Pokes really nab talent away.

The highlight of the 2020 recruiting class for Gundy and Oklahoma State comes with four-star California native pro-style quarterback Shane Illingworth. Oklahoma State does have two four-star prospects, and a few more highly touted three-star prospects. But the battle for Texas to get past Oklahoma State just comes more with quality over quantity.

Oklahoma State did send offers to key Texas targets like Dorbah and five-star cornerback Kelee Ringo. But Texas sits fairly far ahead of Oklahoma State for those two standouts. Four-star Lufkin, TX, safety Jerrin Thompson is about the top Oklahoma State target for the 2020 recruiting class left on the board.
