A former commit of the Arkansas Razorbacks prior to the firing of former head coach Chad Morris, four-star Carthage athlete Kelvontay Dixon is a late riser in the eyes of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class. The 6-foot and 180 pound athlete could be an electric wide receiver or defensive back for Texas if he winds up in Austin.

The cousin of the Longhorns former four-star Carthage running back recruit and to-be junior Keaontay Ingram, Dixon was a key target for the 2020 class since he announced his decommitment from Arkansas. Dixon decommitted from Arkansas back on Nov. 11, and received one offer and will go on two official visits since then.

Other programs listed as “warm” in the pursuit of Dixon includes the Houston Cougars and UTSA Roadrunners. Although, on his latest visit to the Forty Acres, Dixon reportedly felt “right at home”. That is a good sign since those late visits to campus can be so critical when they come right before National Signing Day.

He had an official visit with the Longhorns on Jan. 24, and will have one more with head coach Dana Holgorsen and Houston on Jan. 31.

Dixon ranks as the nation’s No. 342 2020 high school prospect and the No. 15 athlete. In the 247Sports recruiting rankings alone, Dixon ranks as the No. 12 athlete and the No. 37 prospect out of the state of Texas. His late rise in the recruiting rankings reflects his strong play throughout the Texas High School State Playoffs.
