3. Wide Receiver

Considering Texas football loses just two key pieces of their 2019 receiving corps, this shouldn’t be all that hard to put back together this position group this year. The Longhorns do return a number of wideouts that have starting experience and saw ample game action last year. That list includes to-be sophomore Jake Smith, junior Brennan Eagles, and redshirt sophomore Malcolm Epps.

Herman and newly hired Texas offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich made the move to switch Epps back to his original position entering spring camp. Epps was originally a four-star wide receiver recruit, but the coaching staff moved him to tight end last year. He’s moving back to wide receiver ahead of spring ball, which could help out the depth situation here.

Texas also was interested in trying to land the former Michigan Wolverines wide receiver Tarik Black after he put his name in the NCAA Transfer Portal entering the offseason. Black could be a prime candidate to step up and bridge the gap between all the rising talented wide receivers and a more experienced one like himself.

Another name to watch in the receiving corps this year will be redshirt freshman former converted running back Jordan Whittington. The Cuero, TX, native will be one of the true breakout players to watch in the entire Big 12 at this position. He played at running back last year, but will be switched back to wide receiver in spring camp.
