One of the most unheralded Texas running backs in the early 2000’s was 5-foot-11 and 190 pound Westlake High School product and Austin, TX, native Brett Robin. A signee of the Longhorns 1999 recruiting class, Robin made a quiet but notable impact in his four years on the Forty Acres. His college career started quietly, but his role saw an uptick in the following three years.

The best season for Robin came in 2003, which was the first for VY in Austin. In that special 2003 season with the Longhorns, Robin raked in 251 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He would average just over five yards per carry and add 10 catches for 43 yards and no scores through the air.

Over the course of his entire career with Texas, Robin would rack up 119 touches for 740 total yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns. The best outings of Robin’s career would come in multiple appearances against the Baylor Bears (80 rushing yards and three scores) and the North Carolina Tar Heels (around 70 total yards and one score in one game).

When Robin was one of the three main running backs that Texas used in 2003, VY was just starting to get a taste of game action. Former Texas five-star quarterback recruit Chance Mock was the starter ahead of VY for much of the 2003 campaign. Most of Young’s impact in 2003 would come on the ground, with just shy of 1,000 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
