Most efficient skill position players for Longhorns: Honorable mentions

I have to mention that this list cannot really be comprised of players that either have very limited exposure in game action on the Forty Acres, or those who have not taken a single snap in a college game. It has to go off of players that at least have one year of production (preferably proven effectiveness) at the skill positions.

Still it would not be all that difficult to imagine younger former blue chip recruits like the Arizona native true freshman running back Bijan Robinson, converted wide receiver Jordan Whittington, or even wide receiver Kennedy Lewis, to rise to the occasion this fall. There’s a lot of younger talent the Longhorns have at the skill positions that has yet to emerge.

But other names like rising junior wide receiver Brennan Eagles, and Brewer at tight end, actually weren’t all that efficient in their time at Texas so far. Eagles had a team-leading nine drops last season, and was one of the least efficient skill position players all-around. He is the most productive returning wideout in terms of receptions and yards from last year, though.

The other name to watch at the skill positions that had a pretty efficient freshman campaign is the former four-star recruit and Arizona native Jake Smith. When the quarterback looked his way last season, Smith gave him one of the more reliable targets (among top three wideouts on the team in terms of quarterback rating). He registered 25 catches for 274 yards and six touchdowns as a freshman.
