A favorite transfer portal target of mine for Beard and the Longhorns at this point of the offseason is the former Tulane Green Wave and Seton Hall Pirates 5-foot-11 and 170-pound junior point guard Jordan Walker. As one of the better point guards remaining uncommitted in the portal in early June, Walker could be a potential target to watch for Texas.

Despite adding Benson to the guard rotation out of the portal over the weekend, it still feels like Texas is the neediest at the point guard position. Texas did add former Kentucky Wildcats freshman guard Devin Askew by way of the transfer portal just after the April 1 hiring of Beard to be the next head coach.

But Texas is likely going to need more help at the one beyond two players that fit more of a combo guard role like to-be senior Courtney Ramey and Askew. Texas did miss out on quite a few guard targets in the portal so far this offseason, including former Georgia Bulldog Sahvir Wheeler and former Coastal Carolina Chanticleer DeVante’ Jones.

There aren’t any concrete reports that Texas has shown interest in Walker out of the portal, this is just a guess as to who Beard could nab to fill a void in the rotation. Walker could fill a big need remaining for Texas, and he’s proven his ability on both ends of the floor at multiple stops. He’s a good defender that would also add another dynamic to the Longhorns backcourt rotation.

If Beard and the Longhorns are still seeking out backcourt help in the portal this offseason, Walker is a good place to look.
