An up and down week for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, unfortunately, didn’t end on a high note for new head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood on July 4. The holiday weekend once promised a potential commitment from the elite five-star Summer Creek (TX) offensive tackle Kelvin Banks.

But it was head coach Mario Cristobal and the Oregon Ducks that stole away the commitment of the Texas native Banks over the weekend. Oregon managed to rally past both the Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies to secure the commitment of Banks on July 4.

Where to go from here during the dead period for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class?

The good news is that Sark and the Longhorns did land a solid trio of commitments during the first week of the dead period. First up for the Longhorns was a commitment from the four-star Tyler Legacy (TX) running back Jamarion Miller on June 28.

Then, Texas landed a duo of commitments subsequently on the night of July 2 in the form of some interior offensive linemen. Texas landed the likes of four-star Frisco product Cole Hutson and three-star Westlake product Connor Robertson.

Texas is now up to 14 commits in their 2022 class after the trio of prospects they landed in the past week. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners.

One source of some future Texas commits/signees moving forward could be any flips/former commits of a rival school on the recruiting trail like the LSU Tigers. In fact, Texas already holds one former LSU commit in their 2022 class.

With that in mind, here’s a look into three former LSU decommits that Texas could wind up signing in the 2022 class.
