Anthony Jones, ATH

One of the more natural-fitting commits in the Longhorns 2022 class with what new co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Pete Kwiatkowski likes to run on this side of the ball is the three-star Liberty (NV) athlete Anthony Jones. The former Washington Huskies commit seems stuck to Kwiatkowski, eventually joining the Longhorns in following the former UW co-defensive coordinator.

It’s exciting to think about what the 6-foot-5 and 245-pound Nevada native athlete can do with such a natural scheme fit with Kwiatkowski and even fellow new co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Jeff Choate. Jones is by no means the highest-rated commit in the Longhorns 2022 class, but he might be able to make the most immediate impact by any three-star prospect.

Texas got the commitment of Jones back in mid-June, as one of the lone additions to the 2022 class during the resumption of visit season. Jones is one of the better athletes all-around in the 2022 class, with the amount of length and explosiveness that he brings to the table off the line of scrimmage.

Jones only ranks as the nation’s No. 564 2022 high school prospect, No. 45 athlete, and No. 10 prospect out of Nevada (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 34 athlete and No. 10 prospect out of Nevada. It’s easy to see a world where Jones starts for the Longhorns within the first two years of his career in Austin.

If Jones can become a productive linebacker/edge rusher right away for Texas, his raw physical tools should allow him to become a next-level talent. It’s hard to understate how much value Jones can bring to the table for Texas as a nice scheme fit with Kwiatkowski that could start at the JACK position or as a true defensive end.
