Some big news came for a notable target of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class late this week, with four-star Bishop Alemany (CA) athlete Larry Turner-Gooden de-committing from the Arizona State Sun Devils on Sep. 23. The blue-chip west coast product Turner-Gooden is someone that new head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff were after for a good while now.

The writing was on the wall for head coach Herm Edwards and the Sun Devils that a de-commitment from Turner-Gooden could be coming for about the last four-to-six months. And the news officially came with an announcement on the Twitter timeline of Turner-Gooden in the early afternoon of Sep. 23.

Turner-Gooden is one of the more highly coveted targets for the Longhorns 2022 class at this point in time. And now his recruitment is officially re-opened with an official visit looming with the Longhorns for later this fall.

Texas football sees the opportunity with 4-Star Larry Turner-Gooden officially open on Sep. 23

Turner-Gooden originally announced his commitment to Arizona State back on Feb. 26, 2021. But the whispers surrounding the potential of him reopening his recruitment existed since the summer months.

The official de-commitment of Turner-Gooden from Arizona State came after two key visits this month. He had an unofficial visit with the USC Trojans back on Sep. 4. And then, the latest visit Turner-Gooden had come with the Penn State Nittany Lions on Sep. 18.

Turner-Gooden was in Happy Valley in front of a raucous crowd as the Nittany Lions took down the Auburn Tigers in a night game last weekend.

That is something that could’ve taken hold of Turner-Gooden’s interests. But Texas still has their shot to make the right impression with Turner-Gooden when he visits the Forty Acres on Oct. 16.

That visit weekend of Oct. 16, which is a game for Texas against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, is building up to be a huge one for Sark and the Longhorns. Texas could also have the likes of the elite five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart and four-star Garland wide receiver/SMU commit Jordan Hudson on campus, among a load of other key prospects, on campus for the weekend of the Oklahoma State game.

Turner-Gooden could potentially give Texas another touted blue-chip prospect in this building 2022 class. He ranks as the nation’s No. 118 2022 high school prospect, No. 5 athlete, and No. 9 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite).
