Texas Football: 4 key visiting prospects vs. Texas Tech
Harold Perkins, LB
One of the more interesting developments for the Longhorns’ staff this week was the news that the elite five-star Cy Park linebacker Harold Perkins will be returning for a visit for the second weekend in a row. Last weekend, Texas caught a nice stroke of luck with Perkins visiting in the win over the Rice Owls in dominant fashion, by a final score of 58-0.
But the reason why Perkins visited Texas for the Rice game last weekend was the fact that his high school football game was moved closer to Austin. The original plan for Perkins was to visit College Station for the Texas A&M Aggies matchup with the New Mexico Lobos.
Perkins might’ve originally planned to visit Texas this weekend for the Big 12 opener against Texas Tech. If that is the case, this weekend is of critical importance for the coaching staff to make a positive impression with Perkins. It’s a rare opportunity that you get a prospect like Perkins attending games two weekends in a row in this fashion.
Texas was looking for an edge that it could get over competing schools on the recruiting trail to land the commitment of Perkins, like Texas A&M and the LSU Tigers. And this could be exactly what they needed.
New special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph need to capitalize on this chance to make an impact with Perkins in a positive sense as his top recruiters this weekend.
On-field results and priority are what will likely matter to Perkins this weekend. And since he is about the top linebacker prospect that the Longhorns could go after in the 2022 class, Perkins is a huge target to make the right impression with this fall.
