Texas Football: 4 key recruits Sarkisian impressed with win over Tech
Harold Perkins, LB
It was truly enormous for Sark and the Longhorns to get the elite five-star Cy Park linebacker Harold Perkins back to campus for a visit on a second consecutive game weekend. With Perkins not looking to have Texas as his top school entering the fall, it was of paramount importance for this staff to get back in his good graces.
Although it’s not like Texas was out of the running with Perkins entering the fall, it felt like the likes of Texas A&M and the LSU Tigers had moved ahead of the Longhorns among his top schools.
Nonetheless, there were multiple other key Texas recruits that were at work trying to get Perkins to rally around the excitement surrounding this program right now. One to point out, in particular, is the blue-chip Texas quarterback commit and Junipero Serra product Maalik Murphy.
If there is a rallying point for Texas with Perkins following his visit to the Texas Tech game this weekend, it could be his building relationship with Murphy. That could be a powerful force moving forward in the recruitment of Perkins.
With how much Perkins seems to value the priority and fit with a particular program, Texas giving him this much effort and attention should have nothing but a positive impact on his recruitment. And the fact that Texas just beat Texas Tech and the Rice Owls by a combined margin of 93 points, in games where Perkins was in attendance for both, is just an added bonus.
This is one of the most important recruitments to watch for any 2022 prospect for the Longhorns down the stretch this fall. Perkins has new special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks and cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph as his top recruiters.
