There is no way around it, the loss for No. 21 ranked Texas football over the weekend in the annual Red River Rivalry game to the Oklahoma Sooners was terrible. Texas underwent a massive second-half collapse of colossal proportions considering the magnitude of this rivalry game. At one point in this game, Texas and new head coach Steve Sarkisian owned a commanding 28-7 lead.

But after the first quarter, Sark and the Longhorns were beat by head coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners by a margin of 45-20. Texas couldn’t get much of anything going on either side of the ball after about the first 25 minutes of this game.

Despite all of the negatives that arose from this loss to the Sooners, Texas actually still sits in a good position on the recruiting trail. Potentially the biggest visit weekend of the fall is looming for the Big 12 matchup with the No. 12 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys and head coach Mike Gundy on Oct. 16.

If Texas can bounce back in a big way against the Pokes this coming weekend, Sark and his staff still could continue their hot stretch on the recruiting trail for the 2022 class this fall. Texas is set to host a huge number of visiting prospects that are targets of the 2022 and 2023 classes this weekend against Oklahoma State.

There looks to be an opportunity for the Longhorns to make some real strides on the field under Sark and this staff if they can get the right players in the system. Texas has a lot of potential under Sark, and that’s clear following the loss to the Sooners last weekend.

That should still hold a good level of appeal in the eyes of some of the top 2022 and 2023 prospects of the Longhorns. And Texas can capitalize on the potential that a lot of these recruits see in this program if they can get back on track this weekend against the Pokes.

Texas is set to host potentially the two most important targets of for the next two recruiting classes this weekend. For the 2022 class, that is the elite five-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart. And for the 2023 class, that is the nation’s top ranked 2023 high school prospect and five-star Isidore Newman (LA) quarterback Arch Manning.

Sark and the Longhorns now hold 22 commits in the 2022 class after landing four-star Spearman (TX) athlete/wide receiver Brenen Thompson last week. Meanwhile, the Longhorns are still seeking out their first commit that could stick in the 2023 class at this point in time.
