Avion Carter, DL

One of the faster-rising targets for the Longhorns in the 2023 class this fall is the talented four-star Tascosa (TX) defensive lineman Avion Carter. Texas is definitely one of the early top schools for Carter. And this seems like a recruitment that the Longhorns can win out with some sustained effort.

But it also seems like there’s not a single prospect that Texas is finding more traction with entering the bye week among 2023 targets on the trail than Carter. Texas has really found its stride in building this relationship up with Carter since the start of the 2021 season. And that could lead to a commitment in the near future.

It is worth noting that the odds are slight that Texas could land this commitment. But among any of the 2023 prospects that could abruptly announce a decision thanks to some early traction this fall, it feels like Carter would top the list.

Texas already hosted Carter on an unofficial visit back in June. The Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders are the two schools that Carter visited since the summer. And it is definitely worth Texas trying to get Carter for a return visit at some point this fall.

There is a good connection here between new Texas defensive line coach Bo Davis and Carter. He’s doing a good job selling the potential of this Texas defensive front for Carter. And Davis is selling the idea that Carter could play eventually for a top-tier defensive line in the SEC.

That appears to be hitting with Carter so far. Get him back for a visit and Texas could really establish itself as a frontrunner here. This is definitely a recruitment to watch that could turn in Texas’ favor at any one point in time.
