During a long stretch of days off for new head coach Chris Beard and No. 8 ranked Texas basketball, there’s time to get set for another winnable stretch of non-conference games ahead. It looks like Texas really found their grove in the last two games, which resulted in wins over the likes of the Cal Baptist Lancers and the San Jose State Spartans.

Dating back to last weekend, Beard and the Longhorns were able to build up some momentum from a couple of convincing wins at home at the Frank Erwin Center to round out their run in the Abe Lemons Classic. Texas had three games in the Abe Lemons Classic, which was hosted at the Erwin Center in Austin, all of which resulted in wins.

The trio of wins in the Abe Lemons Classic included the two aforementioned triumphs over San Jose State and Cal Baptist. Texas also had a closer than anticipated win over the stingy Northern Colorado Bears last week to start off this event.

Which new additions are shining in the spotlight for Texas basketball after the first five games?

After the first five games of the regular season, Beard and the Longhorns are sporting a record of 4-1 (0-0 Big 12). That one loss is pretty excusable, though, given the fact that it came on the road against the No. 1 ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs.

All of the new additions the Longhorns brought in during the offseason after the former Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Beard was hired to replace Shaka Smart are having a noticeable positive impact thus far.

Here’s a look at three of the new additions shining for the Longhorns through the first five games of the regular season.
