3-Star LB Eoghan Kerry adds to Texas’ growing list of de-commitments
A true roller coaster ride of a week for new head coach Steve Sarkisian in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class has capped in a rather negative fashion. Following a win for Texas on Black Friday (Nov. 26), Sark wound up actually losing another couple of commits in the 2022 recruiting class. It seems like snapping the losing streak didn’t pay the immediate dividends some figure it might to cap the regular season.
In total, Sark and the Longhorns coaching staff lost three commitments in the 2022 class since Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 25). The first was four-star Tyler Legacy running back Jamarion Miller, who wound up flipping to join the Alabama Crimson Tide on that same day.
And then, Sark and the Longhorns lost the initial commit for the first-year head coach in the 2022 class in the form of four-star Lewisville wide receiver Armani Winfield. The de-commitment from Winfield actually came in the midst of the win over Kansas State on Nov. 26. And all signs are pointing to Winfield eventually landing with head coach Mel Tucker and the Michigan State Spartans.
Texas football loses its third 2022 commit in three days with 3-Star LB Eoghan Kerry de-committing on Nov. 27
The third de-commitment in a matter of just a few days came for the Longhorns on Nov. 27 with three-star Mater Dei linebacker Eoghan Kerry opening up his recruitment just ahead of the Early Signing Period.
Kerry announced his de-commitment on his Twitter timeline on the afternoon of Nov. 27, almost exactly 24 hours after Winfield also de-committed from Texas. And this came almost exactly 48 hours after Miller flipped his commitment from Texas to Alabama.
As one of two true linebacker commits that sat in the Longhorns 2022 class heading into the weekend, losing Kerry means that Texas suddenly has a more glaring position of need to focus on in the weeks and months ahead. After the de-commitment of Kerry, the lone remaining true linebacker commit in the Longhorns 2022 class is the three-star Arlington-Martin product, Trevell Johnson.
Some key linebacker targets to watch for the Longhorns moving forward include the elite five-star Cy Park product Harold Perkins and potentially four-star McQueen (NV) product Robby Snelling. But it looks like Texas will have to seek out some other linebacker targets that remain uncommitted at this point of the recruiting cycle if they want to replace Kerry in the 2022 class.
Texas is now down to 20 commits in the 2022 class following the de-commitment of Kerry. And the top schools to watch at this point for Kerry look to be the Colorado Buffaloes, Arizona Wildcats, and UCLA Bruins.
