3 Texas players that could follow Casey Thompson into the transfer portal
The most notable departure from the Texas football program in terms of entrants into the NCAA Transfer Portal just occurred on Dec. 17 with redshirt junior quarterback Casey Thompson. This was pretty abrupt news concerning Texas heading into the weekend that will change the look of the quarterback room in 2022.
Yet, it wasn’t completely unexpected that the Longhorns were going to lose someone like Thompson to the transfer portal entering the offseason. Most Longhorns fans had to expect that either Thompson or sophomore quarterback Hudson Card would be putting their name in the transfer portal this offseason after some recent events that changed the look of the QB room.
It was the addition of the former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers out of the transfer portal that sparked the attrition to the QB room for the Longhorns. More attrition could be on the way for the Longhorns, and not just at the quarterback position.
Who else could follow Casey Thompson from the Texas football program into the transfer portal?
Texas also recently lost the likes of the former wide receivers coach Andre Coleman and running backs coach Stan Drayton. That could cause further roster attrition on the offensive side of the ball for the 2022 offseason.
The Longhorns parted ways with Coleman over the weekend, and Drayton is set to become the next Temple Owls head coach.
Yet, this move by Thompson to enter the transfer portal could spark another wave of departures for the Longhorns in the days and weeks ahead. Here’s a look at three more Longhorns players that could follow Thompson’s lead by entering the transfer portal in the near future.
