Something that will continue to play a prominent role throughout the offense for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program is the NCAA Transfer Portal. While it does feel like most of the departures from the Forty Acres to the transfer portal are now behind us, the additions to the program via this route are likely far from over.

There was plenty of movement in and out of the transfer portal for Sark and the Longhorns last month. Texas added two former Ohio State Buckeyes freshmen out of the transfer portal during the month of December. And those two former Buckeyes players are freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers and redshirt freshman cornerback Ryan Watts.

Texas got to fill two looming needs on the roster ahead of the turn of the calendar year by making big splash moves with commitments from Ewers and Watts out of the transfer portal.

What could be next for Sark and the Longhorns in terms of additions to the roster out of the transfer portal?

It feels like there won’t be a whole lot of action out of the transfer portal for the Longhorns at some positions of need in the 2022 recruiting class ahead of National Signing Day next month. The Texas coaching staff looks to want to make their pitch to some of their top remaining targets in the 2022 class first before that happens (i.e. 5-Star OL Devon Campbell and 5-Star S Jacoby Matthews).

Yet, the month of January could still be an eventful one in terms of identifying targets in the transfer portal for the Longhorns. And there could always be some big names that Sark and his staff want to add out of the portal no matter what.

Here’s a look into three important Texas transfer portal targets to watch in January.
