3 reasons Gary Patterson should join the Texas coaching staff
The ability to work with underdeveloped elite talents
The ability to make an immediate impact in terms of game-planning and player development is something that should be drawing Patterson to the Forty Acres. He surely could make a name for himself in terms of re-establishing his brand image and getting his stock trending up if he can make waves with this Texas defense right away.
Patterson would surely have some elite talents to work with on this side of the ball for the Longhorns that need some further development. Former blue-chip defensive recruits such as sophomore defensive end/edge rusher Alfred Collins, sophomore safety Jerrin Thompson, and sophomore cornerback Kitan Crawford, among many others, are just waiting for their opportunity to shine.
Collins is one great example of a player that could really benefit from getting a few years of development under a coach like Patterson. Collins is an elite pass rusher waiting to happen.
There are also some seriously talented returning seniors for Texas in 2022 that could help ease the transition for Patterson to work his way in with this coaching staff. The senior duo of cornerback D’Shawn Jamison and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown are two names that stick out in terms of players on this side of the ball that could greatly benefit from the addition of Patterson.
Jamison and Overshown could also help make Patterson’s job easier knowing that he’s got so much talent to work with right away on the Forty Acres.
The untapped talent that the Longhorns have in the mix is something that will always draw big names to have an interest in joining the coaching staff. That seems to be one of the factors that could appeal to Patterson with Texas.
