The NCAA Transfer Portal is obviously having a major impact on the shifting landscape in the Big 12 football conference this offseason. Early this offseason, it appears to more than half of the Big 12 programs are going to have new starting quarterbacks in 2022. And that comes largely thanks to the transfer portal.

One program that is going to have a new starting quarterback in 2022, as it appears now, is the Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma is trying to find their next answer at quarterback after the breakout freshman star and former elite five-star recruit Caleb Williams put his name in the transfer portal earlier this month.

And one potential solution for the Sooners at quarterback out of the transfer portal this offseason could be the former USC Trojans talented freshman signal-caller, Jaxson Dart. The 6-foot-2 and 215-pound former blue-chip recruit Dart was on campus during the holiday weekend in Norman, OK, visiting with new head coach Brent Venables and offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby.

In looking at Dart’s activity on social media during and after the visit, most indications would lead you to believe that it went really well. Dart posted himself sporting Oklahoma gear on his Twitter timeline on the afternoon of Jan. 17.

Dart would be a big addition for the Sooners if he does wind up landing in Norman out of the transfer portal in 2022. But he also looks to have an interest in landing with head coach Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels. He recently took a visit with Kiffin and Ole Miss last week too.

It is interesting that Oklahoma would be pushing so hard, though, for Dart considering the fact that they already flipped the commitment of the former UCF Knights quarterback Dillon Gabriel from the UCLA Bruins out of the portal this offseason. Oklahoma might just want to get as much as they can at quarterback in 2022.

But it could make for an interesting situation in Norman if they have commitments out of the portal from both Dart and Gabriel. We will just have to wait and see what happens with Dart’s recruitment in the days and weeks ahead.

Some of the other big quarterback transfers around the Big 12 include freshman Quinn Ewers landing with the Texas Longhorns, Gabriel with the Sooners, and Adrian Martinez with the Kansas State Wildcats. Among the more significant quarterback departures from the Big 12 this offseason are Casey Thompson going from Texas to Nebraska and Jarret Doege going from West Virginia to Western Kentucky.
