Texas still tabbed as the ‘clear favorite’ to land 5-Star IOL Devon Campbell
The target of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood that all fans are watching ahead of National Signing Day is the elite five-star Bowie interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell. Sark and Flood have clearly made it their top remaining priority in the 2022 class to round out this cycle by landing a commitment from Campbell.
There are other interesting targets to watch as it relates to the Longhorns 2022 class as we approach National Signing Day early next month, but Campbell is the top name on the board. Campbell is also the most realistic blue-chip target of the Longhorns 2022 class for this staff to haul in on National Signing Day.
Campbell is set to announce his decision on Feb. 2. And his decision looks to be boiled down to just Texas and the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas looked like the top school for a good while now, but Oklahoma keeps making late pushes to seemingly start closing the gap.
This seemed to happen last fall and again earlier this month with Oklahoma offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh pushing harder for Campbell than any other prospects he’s gone after in the Sooners’ 2022 class of late.
Texas football reportedly still considered the “clear favorite” with 5-Star IOL Devon Campbell ahead of his decision day
But the indications are still pointing to Flood and the Longhorns as the favorite to eventually pull in a commitment from Campbell. A recent report from On3 (paid content) mentions that the “Longhorns are the clear favorite” in the race to land a commitment from Campbell on Feb. 2.
There are some other leading indicators too that the Longhorns are still in the lead to attain a pledge from Campbell on the second signing period of this cycle. All five expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions for Campbell project his commitment to land with Texas.
And the On3 recruiting prediction machine gives better than a 96 percent chance for the Longhorns to land the commitment of Campbell over the Sooners.
All in all, Texas will still have to close out this recruitment strong with Campbell. Oklahoma isn’t going to let up. But the consistency for which the Longhorns went after Campbell and built up this relationship from the ground up with plenty of regular communication has kept them in a great position to eventually reel in his commitment on National Signing Day.
Texas currently has 27 prospects signed in their 2022 class ahead of National Signing Day. And there is one more prospect committed, but not yet signed, in three-star Warren Easton cornerback Ronald Lewis. Yet, it looks like Lewis could be flipping his commitment soon to the TCU Horned Frogs given some recent indicators in his recruitment.
