3 blue-chip 2024 prospects Texas could land in February
Aeryn Hampton, CB
If we had to place a bet on it, then the nod for the next potential prospect to commit in the Longhorns 2024 class would be the former Baylor Bears pledge and four-star Daingerfield (TX) cornerback Aeryn Hampton. It might not be too long before Hampton essentially flips his commitment from Baylor to Texas.
The recruitment of Hampton was one of the crazier sagas of any defensive prospect for the 2024 recruiting cycle thus far. It was almost exactly one month ago that Hampton was committed to Baylor. He originally committed to Baylor back on Dec. 8. But his commitment stuck with head coach Dave Aranda and the Bears for less than one full month.
There are a number of leading indicators now showing that Texas could be in line to soon land the commitment of Hampton.
The first is the fact that the two most recent expert 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions placed on Feb. 3 project Hampton’s commitment to go to Texas. This comes after Hampton posted a picture of himself in an office with Sark that he tagged with “NewProfilePic”.
Cornerbacks coach Blake Gideon is doing a nice job with the recruitment of Hampton. If the efforts of Gideon and the Longhorns recruiting Hampton soon pay off with a commitment, he would be the second blue-chip defensive back to start things off for the Longhorns 2024 class. That would be a truly special way to get things going in the secondary for the 2024 class.
