Predicting Texas’ next transfer addition ahead of spring camp

Among the most significant transfer portal targets that emerged for the Longhorns in the last few weeks is the former West Virginia Mountaineers All-Big 12 senior linebacker Josh Chandler-Semedo. The former under-the-radar three-star recruit and 5-foot-11 and 225-pound linebacker is definitely one of the most experienced and proven players at his position in the portal at the moment.

And knowing the help that Texas needs at the linebacker position, it’s not surprising that the coaching staff got in contact with Chandler-Semedo almost immediately upon him entering the transfer portal. Not only does Chandler-Semedo have a proven track record of production at multiple spots at the linebacker position, but he’s also done so in the Big 12 over the course of multiple years.

It’s unclear at the moment which schools exactly line up as the top contenders to eventually land the commitment of Chandler-Semedo out of the portal. But Texas has to be considered one of the top schools of note recruiting him out of the portal thus far.

Getting Chandler-Semedo on campus ahead of, or during, spring ball could be the logical next move for the Longhorns coaching staff. For co-defensive coordinators/linebackers coaches Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate to really make the right impression on him, they’ll need to lock him in for a visit before too long.

If not, it looks like there will be another notable Power Five school that swoops in and nabs him out of the portal.

A big move from Texas in the weeks ahead could mean a quick announcement from Chandler-Semedo, depending on how he’s looking to formulate his timeline at this moment.
