One of the late additions to the injury report for the Longhorns this spring was the former elite five-star Bowie recruit and sophomore interior offensive lineman DJ Campbell. After getting first-team reps at offensive guard in the first few weeks of spring practice, Campbell wound up missing the spring game on April 15 due to a wrist injury.

The aforementioned wrist injury was expected to keep Campbell out for at least a month. But that timeline would put his full return to workouts right around the start of the summer strength and conditioning program for the Longhorns.

And it sounds like Campbell is right on track to make it back as a full participant by the start of summer workouts next month.

Moreover, it was unfortunate to see Campbell suffer this wrist injury at the time that he did. Campbell’s injury not only hurt his chances to push for the starting job at offensive guard heading into the fall, but it also further limited Texas’ depth along the offensive line. Texas was already missing some key interior offensive linemen this spring due to injury such as sophomores Connor Robertson and Cole Hutson.

Campbell will need a big fall camp to show that he is going to be able to push Hutson for starting reps at right guard after a disappointing finish to the spring for the talented interior offensive lineman.
